Muscle Car GTO

volvo auto news

Pontiac GTO has been called one of the most iconic cars in history. Its 389 cubic-inch V8 motor and Three-speed transmission will deliver the goods. The Carousel Red color is the ultimate expression of the classic muscle car. It was also the first car to use a supercharged power engine, making it a truly unique model. Why is the GTO so rare, you ask?

Pontiac GTO

The Pontiac GTO muscle car was first produced in 1968 and was subsequently named Motor Trend's Car of the Year. It was discontinued in 1974 but briefly resurrected in the 2000s. The GTO was a benchmark muscle car at the time. Although it was not the most powerful or luxurious car, the GTO was a great choice for anyone looking for a fast car that didn't cost a fortune.

The 1964 Pontiac Tempest is the base of the prototype. This was a mid-sized rearwheel-drive car that had a 3.15-liter straight four engine. General Motors had previously banned mid-size cars that had engines larger than 389 cubic inches. Pontiac built test mules with a larger 389 cubic-inch V8 from the full-size line to bypass this restriction. Although the prototypes failed, Pontiac knew they had something special.

V8 engine with 389 cubic inches

Pontiac GTO featured a three-liter, massive V8 engine. The GM brand was committed to innovation and ambitious in its goal to be the top-performing brand. GTO's massive engine was not the only thing that impressed. The GTO also featured excellent styling and powerful brakes and steering. Here are some important points to remember about this great car.

The "Trophy" V8 was the first Pontiac GTO 389-cubic inches V8. It was manufactured from 1959 to 1966. Depending on the model, this engine produced between 200-370 horsepower. This car was the fastest of its kind and won the race track. The 389 engine was dominant in the 1960s.

Transmission with three speeds

The Three-Speed Transmission is the default transmission on a GTO. It is also known as a HD-transmission, which stands for Ford Dearborn 3-speed, fitted to a GM application. This transmission has a different set of gears to the standard Ford. Regardless of the transmission type, a GTO with a three-speed transmission will always feel more powerful. You might want to consider buying the four-speed manual, if possible.

In 1964, Pontiac introduced the muscle car segment by dropping a large displacement 389 CID V8 into its Tempest, then tweaked it with performance upgrades. The GTO was the first production model of a sports car equipped a floor-mounted, three-speed manual transmission. All American automakers soon followed this lead. Many models later featured a floor-mounted manual four-speed shifter.

Carousel Red color

One of the most sought-after colors in the automotive industry is the Carousel Red color, which is used for the GTO muscle car. It is a deep, rich orange color that blends well with the bright colors of the time. The Judge GTO was originally sold only in Carousel Red. But, recent models have been available in other colors, such as the popular Monaco Orange. For those who want a unique color, the GTO Judge in Carousel Red is highly recommended.

The Pontiac GTO Judge, originally in Carousel Red was only available for a limited number of units. Although other colors were added over time, Carousel Red has remained the most desired color. Named after the 1960s comedy "Raising Hope", Pontiac GTO Judge,

FAQ

Is a career in automotive mechanic promising?

Automotive is an exciting industry filled with opportunities for people who are committed to excellence. You can only succeed in this field if you work hard and learn from others.

Excellent communication skills are essential as you will spend most of the time speaking to customers or other employees. You should also be willing to travel and work long hours, making commuting difficult.

Take classes at community colleges or universities if you're interested to work in automotive. Many schools offer programs specific to students interested in sales, auto repair, or customer service.

If you decide to pursue a degree, you should study mechanical engineering. A bachelor's degree can be obtained in four years.

Many employers will hire graduates straight out from school. It's a smart idea to begin looking for work while you have the opportunity to study part-time.

After your education is complete, you will probably need some training in order to become an automotive technician.

This means you'll need pass exams like the Automotive Services Excellence (ASE), certification exam. This test covers topics like engine maintenance, brakes system, suspension, and many other subjects.

After passing the ASE exam, you can apply for a National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence license.

You can perform repairs on private cars by obtaining a license. You'll be paid based upon the number of services provided.

Not all states require licensing. If you intend to work in another state, however, you will need a license.

Some states don’t issue licenses until a certain amount has been completed. This may be the case for you.

Is it important which college I go?

Not really. There is no difference between colleges in terms of how to get into the automobile industry. Some schools have better programs than others, so you might want to look elsewhere if your goal is something more specialized.

Can I work as an auto mechanic without a degree? Can I study part time?

Although it's not mandatory, a degree can help. Employers will prefer candidates who have completed a degree. It shows that you've put the effort in and have done everything possible to succeed.

However, it doesn't mean you can't still work while studying. Some universities permit students to do coursework during summer holidays and complete their studies later in a year. Others allow students to study part-time all year.

How To

How to Become an Auto Technician

An automotive technician is responsible for vehicle maintenance and repair. He/she works at automotive shops, garages or service centers. He/she helps customers fix their cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATVs, boats, lawn mowers, snowmobiles, tractors, trailers, farm equipment, planes, helicopters, jet skis, watercraft, bicycles, motorcycles, scooters, golf carts, etc. A technician in automotive must be able diagnose and repair problems quickly, safely, accurately, efficiently, and effectively.

An associate degree from a vocational school is required for anyone who wishes to become an automotive technician. After completing the program, he/she must pass ASE certification. ASE stands to American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The ASE certification test consists of two sections. The first section tests the ability to use mechanical knowledge. The second section tests the ability to apply practical skills. You must attend one of the authorized testing sites to take the test. These locations are available online or through your local automotive dealer.

After passing the test, a candidate must pass a state examination before becoming licensed as an automotive technician. This process can vary depending on where the applicant lives. Some states require that candidates attend training courses, while others permit them to learn independently. In addition, some states license technicians immediately after they receive their license, while others wait until they have completed at least six months of employment as an automotive technician.

Apply to your local dealership to become an automotive technician. Most new employees work as apprentices after they have been hired. Apprenticeships typically last three years. A student will learn to repair basic things like changing oil, adjusting brakes or replacing tires. They also learn how spark plugs are cleaned and inspect engine compartments. Some students are taught how to repair engines and replace transmission fluids. Many schools offer classes during normal business hours. Some schools also offer evening classes, if necessary.

Once a student is done with his/her apprenticeship he/she can become a master journeyman. Journeymen usually spend four to five year learning how to install major systems like transmissions, differentials steering gear, suspensions, drive shafts, and steering gear. They also learn to perform complex repairs, such as remanufacturing engines, rebuilding transmissions, and troubleshooting electrical components. Because they have the experience and knowledge to do the job right, employers love hiring journeymen.

A candidate who passes all the necessary exams and gets a license might be interested in opening his/her own business. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nearly 1.7 million automotive mechanic jobs were available in 2010. That number was expected to grow by 18 percent from 2009 to 2020. If a candidate decides to open his/her own shop, he/she should prepare to invest many thousands of dollars in equipment and supplies.

The salary of an automotive technician will depend on many factors including where you live, your education level, experience and the type of employer. On average, a jobless person could expect to earn $20,000 annually. A person with only a high-school diploma could make around $21,000 annually. Associate's degrees earn approximately $24,000 per annum. Technicians with a bachelor’s degree made about $27,000 annually. And those with master's degrees made around $32,000 per year. Salary increases are common, so a professional who earns less than $30,000 now could reasonably expect to earn $40,000 or more in just a few years.
