FAQ

What qualifications are required to become a truck mechanic

While you may not have the formal qualifications to perform this job, your skills are well-rounded in working on engines and trucks. Your experience is invaluable as you know how to diagnose problems quickly and efficiently.

Also, your knowledge of diesel technology will be a benefit as you can help us understand which parts are needed for our vehicles.

Can I work as an auto mechanic without a degree? What about part-time study?

A degree isn't necessary, but it certainly helps. Employers are more likely to hire candidates who have completed a complete degree. This shows you have put in the work and achieved success.

But, this doesn't mean you have to stop working while studying. Some universities allow students to complete coursework over the summer holidays and finish their studies later in the year. Students can also take classes part time throughout the academic year.

What can I do to fix my car as an hobby?

If you are interested in cars, why not take it on as a hobby? You can learn to fix them, buy them parts, and even sell them. If you are looking for something new, this would be a great hobby.

It's not an easy task to make this a full-time job. It takes dedication and hardwork. And you'll need to invest a lot of money too.

So unless you have a good reason for wanting to get involved with cars, then it might be best to leave it alone.

How To

How to become an Automotive Technician

An automotive technician provides repair services and maintenance to vehicles. He/she works in car dealerships as well as auto shops, garages, and service centers. Customers can rely on him/her to fix their cars, trucks and motorcycles. A technician in automotive must be able diagnose and repair problems quickly, safely, accurately, efficiently, and effectively.

If you want to be an automotive technician, you need an associate degree from vocational school. After completing this program, he/she must pass the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification exam. ASE stands as American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Two sections make up the ASE certification examination. One section tests knowledge of mechanical components, while the other section tests skills in practical areas. To pass the test, you will need to visit an authorized testing location. These testing sites can be found online and through your local dealer.

A candidate must pass the state exam after passing the test to become an automotive technician. This process varies depending on where the applicant lives. For example, some states require candidates to attend a training course, while others allow them to study independently. Some states require technicians to be licensed immediately upon receiving their license. Other states wait until they have been employed as automotive technicians for at least six month.

To get started as an automotive technician, a person should apply to a local automotive dealership. Most employees who are hired start as apprentices. Apprenticeship programs typically last three to four years. A student will learn to repair basic things like changing oil, adjusting brakes or replacing tires. They also learn how spark plugs are cleaned and inspect engine compartments. Some students are able to perform more advanced repairs such as replacing shocks and installing air filters. Many schools offer classes during regular hours. However, some schools offer evening classes if needed.

Once a student completes his/her apprenticeship, he/she becomes a journeyman. Journeymen usually spend four to five year learning how to install major systems like transmissions, differentials steering gear, suspensions, drive shafts, and steering gear. They are also taught how to troubleshoot electrical components and remanufacture engines. Because they have the experience and knowledge to do the job right, employers love hiring journeymen.

A candidate who passes all the necessary exams and gets a license might be interested in opening his/her own business. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were almost 1.7 million available jobs in the automotive mechanic field in 2010. This number was expected increase 18% between 2009 - 2020. A candidate who plans to open a shop should expect to spend many thousands of dollars on equipment and supplies.

There are many factors that affect the salary of an automotive technician, such as where they live, their education and experience. On average, an unemployed person could earn $20,000 annually. A high school diploma is all that's required to earn approximately $21,000 annually. An associate's degree earns approximately $24,000 annually. Technicians with a bachelor's degree earn about $27,000 per annum. Masters' degree holders earn around $32,000 per annum. A common trend is for salary increases to occur so a professional making less than $30,000 can reasonably expect to be earning $40,000 or more within a few years.
